Called the exhaust shop today..
So i called the exhaust shop today to see if they could install some stainless steel headers. They replied with " If you put stainless steel headers in, they will crack due to the heat"
Is this true? Or are they just being slack...

They won't crack but enjoy blowing header gaskets out.

Re: Called the exhaust shop today..
Dont use header gaskets, use OEM gaskets if the flange is flat. Or, I have had great luck with Mr. Gasket manifold gasket material.

Re: Called the exhaust shop today..
Like it has been said ,make sure the header flange is flat and use the factory gasket . I have had good sucess with soaking the factory gasket in water before hand then installing the headers . tighten the bolts to spec , run the engine till hot then retorque the header bolts . I have never had to retorque after that .

Re: Called the exhaust shop today..
That I dont know. I got mine used. The OEM gaskets did not completely line up with my headers, maybe because there for a 2.9 But the gasket material worked great.
My headmans came with paper, I installed them and had to replace them after about 7 months

Re: Called the exhaust shop today..
Damn, more shit i have to the exhaust shop.
Doing these by myself is starting to sound better and better, but if something needs to be welded or i brake a bolt i'm fucked..

Re: Called the exhaust shop today..
JBA has a metal cloth style they are junk. Burnt mine up in 6 months. Also tried seal-4-good header gaskets that start out 1/4 thick. Burnt those up. Now I have stock manifold gaskets that I covered in copper gasket spray first then installed. So far so good. But they will go also it's typical with headers the head expands and contracts at a different rate then the header thus blowing out header gaskets. Any engine running headers it's always common to have to replace gaskets.

My headers are original, and rusted to hell and back, and have a hole in them. That's why i want to replace them, its also throwing a code for the EGR valve because its sucking in too much air. So i'm assuming i still have oem gaskets.
Should i just reuse my oem gasket or do you know of some good ones i can buy online?
