is it safe to disconnect the exhaust pipe after the cats?
hey yall, i was perty content with my magnaflow dual exhaust set up on my 99 ford ranger 3.0, till my buddy popped up with his 94 4.0. he had removed one cat and had about two feet of pipe on it and it sounded good, i wont much for loud exhaust on a v6 till i heard his. so my question is, i have a point in the exhaust line when i can unbolt the pipe. theres about a half a foot of pipe left after the cats where the sensor is, so if i can unbolt at this point and run the truck that way, will it damage the motor? i have read up on this and yes, i heard that its a federal offence if you remove the cats or do anything close to them, i live in NC and all that matters is if you can pass the Emissions test or not (ipassed this month), but if i run this set up just to be loud every once and a while, will i do damage to my engine? will it run lean or throw off the valves? i just want to run loud every once and a while if its gonna screw things up i wont touch it, i aint seen a clear answer on this topic yet just wanting to know, i got a 74 buick with a 350 chevy in it with open headers so yes i do know what good exhaust sounds like :P

Re: is it safe to disconnect the exhaust pipe after the cats?
Will sound like horse shit, especially with a 3.0. It won't float a valve or anything like that, so no, there is no danger to the engine.
I sure hope you do not have just open headers on that sbc, please tell me you have some form of exhaust piping on it. Besides sounding like a pissed off farm truck, its a great way to float a valve

Your current exhaust sounds fine, leave it how it is.
