Have you looked at the Borla or Magnaflows? Those are my personal favorites for the 4.0s.

I have a 40 series flowmaster single inlet/ dual outlet on my SOHC 4.0L and I like it. It has a nice deep rumble too it for a 6 cylinder.....doesn't sound as good as on my 5.0L Mustang but you are 2 cylinders short LOL. Only thing I don't care for is the resonance drone inside the cab. I think the 40 series delta flow is supposed to be quieter inside the cab. My 2 Cents.

i'm running a 2.5in 44 dual 2.5in out and it's loud but gnarly. i heard magnaflows are more of a "refined" sound but still pretty BA

I have a super 40 series flowmaster on my 2001 4.0; single in, dual out, 12in chrome pipes. I don't get a lot of noise in the cab unless I get on it, but you can def hear me coming down the road. The rumble turns a lot of heads, and people mistake it for magnaflow or gibson all the time. Paid $300 for the whole setup/install. Just my $0.02 on that.

I have a sound clip on my pc at home of my truck next to one of my friends trucks if you're interested in hearing what it sounds like. Just PM me.

I run an original flowmaster 40 dumped before the rear axle. Definitely has a drone to it, but that is what I get for dumping it, I may pipe it out eventually Lightning style. But I have had flow 40s on both my Rangers and liked them. Plus I usually find them for pretty good deals, just need to pay for the welding till I get a welder that is...

I had 40s on my 4.0 with 18x5 inch tips and it was awsome. The muffler rotted out being in storage and I threw on a Cherry Bomb with a 3"downward firing tip right off the Cherry and it is loud as hell!!! Just a thought!

i put a gibson dual extreme cat back on my 02 ranger and love it
very low resonance inside the cap, but you can really hear it when i drive by. smooth and mellow at idle and constant throttle, but barks when you step on it. feels like i got a little more torque up the hills. was really easy to install my myself and looks great. best part was the improvement in gas mileage. before the gibson i had been getting just under 17 avg with the 4.0 liter in mixed driving, after installation it went up to 18.5 in the same mix of city and highway driving even though i tend to step on it alot more now.
anyway im extrememly impressed with the gibsons if u wanna see pics or neting let me know
