Default v8 Rummble....

I am looking for a new exaust for my 4.0L. I want something that is comparible to a v8 with a glasspack. Deep rumble at idle, non of that ricey sound.

Impossible for a v6 to sound like a v8. period.

Flowmaster Super 44 is where it's at on a 01+ 4.0 Ranger.

Haha that funny.... Well what do yall think a 4.0 would sound like with a glass pack or a electric cutout? The flowmaster sound is not for me

If the flowmaster is not for you, I can say that the glasspack or a cutout is most definately not for you.

It sounds like shit either way. I've done it. Super 44 met my wants and needs. The other 5 setups I ran wern't up to the task. Magnaflow, Dynomax ultra flo oval, glasspack, Original 40, Super 40, and of course, straight pipe. I wanted deep, good sounding, and somewhat loud. I've been told it's loud on the outside, but I can't tell from the inside. It's pretty quiet IMO.

Intresting.... Does a flowmaster sound that much different on a v6 vs a v8. I really like to pure power sound out of a 5.4L v8 with strait pipes or glass packs. But I cant stand another 5.4 with a orginal 40. How does the super 44 compare to a orginal 40. Fx4wannabe01 do you have any videos or sound clips of your ehaust?

Hit up youtube and search my name. I think all my clips have my screen name in the title. They'll give you an idea of the sound...but nothing compares to hearing it in real life. Some vid's are dumped, some have tailpipes. Still havn't gotten a vid with the 44 and tailpipes yet though.

40 vs 44......Original 40 was actually pretty damn quiet on the truck. Sounded good, but was actually, surprizingly tame considering that same muffler on a carb'd v8 is LOUD and just plain bad ass sounding. The Super 40 was alot deeper and louder and the tone was very very nice. The super 44 was even more deeper and the tone was about the same as the Super 40, and it was louder than the Super 40. Super 44 and Super 40 are about the same muffler, but the 44 is in a smaller case with small differences inside. Both sound awesome on this engine and if I didn't get a screamin' deal on the 44, I would still be Super 40'd up.

Something to note: Even a muffler that's considered "insanely loud" on a v8, is actually quite tame on a 01+ Ranger 4.0. And no, a v6 will still never sound like a v8. ever.

Thought about a straight pipe.... But won't that kill my back presure and torque and take my MPG along with it?

For tonal quality, I've always heard that the longer the glasspack, the better the sound. That being said, I had a 280z I put a long glasspack on cause it had space to do it and it didn't sound bad at all. Deep...not rattley. Did it sound like a v8? No, but it didn't sound too far off either.

Too much rat ta tat tat on the rev...I don't think the long glasspack suffered from that.

Put a long glasspack on it. Mines 22 inches in length and it doesn't sound raspy or ricey at all.
