2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
Hey everyone I'm new to FRF. I just bought my new (slightly used) 2011 manual 4.0 SOHC Sport 4x4 Ranger about 2 months ago and I'm happy to say I finally feel at home again while driving! My first car was a manual (which I learned on) 1990 XLT. Man I still miss that truck!
The reason why I am posting today is because I am considering buying a dual exhaust for the new truck. Since I bought it, I have noticed a nice rumble from the engine and exhaust but would like to hear a little more (nothing too extreme). I'm just curious if any members have had a dual exhaust installed? If so what is a good brand to go with? Also what are the benefits of installing a dual exhaust? (for example does it increase torque, hp or mpg's?). What is a "true" dual exhaust aside from just a dual exhaust?
Im not very tech savvy when it comes to cars but am hoping that FRF and its members will help me with any project I come across! . If anyone can share any light on this topic or help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Thank You!

Welcome.
I don't have a dual exhaust but there's plenty of members on here that do. I can answer your question about true duals though. True duals is when there is one pipe coming straight from each header or exhaust manifold so the exhaust from each header never meet eachother. Some people run dual exhaust with an h pipe somewhere in the middle which is a passage way between the pipes coming from each header. It lets the gases equalize so each has the same amount of exhaust coming out of it.
Feel free to ask any other questions. There's a lot of information on here and you can learn a lot just from reading over other threads

What kind is better? A true dual or the H style?

Neither is better over the other really both will cost about the same. I have had quite a few 70's Chevy's and fords and always put true duals on them just because it seemed easier since I was building it custom and not buying an already made exhaust. You have to think about the price difference between duals and single exhaust. Twice as many cats and two mufflers and twice the amount of pipe and bends. Just make sure you know what its going to cost before you decide to go that route

Do you know much about benefits of a "performance" exhaust? Is it mainly just for aesthetic reasons? Does a dual exhaust surpass a single exhaust? Sorry I know I'm a question box lol but I'm really curious about exhausts systems as of late.

That and I figured I'd do a little research before I bought one. Figured this would be the best place to ask. I may also attempt installing it myself granted it doesn't involve welding....

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
on rangers no matter what exhaust you get your not gonna see a huge gain in performance unless you dump 1000 dollars into an exhaust with headers and high flow cats and then you may feel a difference.
ive never installed a already made system ive always custom made mine but i think when you buy a cat back exhaust it usually just clamps on and i dont think there is any welding

Thanks bud you have been a real help! If anyone else can share more light on this topic please feel free to chime in. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has an aftermarket single or dual exhaust (true dual or H style). Was it a task to install if personally installed?

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
Your best bet is gonna be a single in dual out duals. Get a flowmaster 40 welded in

What exactly is a single in dual out duals? Is that the "H style" as americanracing described?

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
No it's more of a y style. Any catback dual exhaust you buy online for the ranger is gonna be a single in dual out. A single pipe from the cat goes into the muffler then dual pipes come out of the muffler and head out the back

Is this the flowmaster 40 your talking about?
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/se...20delta%20flow
When you say welded in, does that mean the muffler already comes welded to the exhaust pipes from the factory?

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
Yes you can either buy just the muffler, have a shop weld it in and have the pipes run out how you want them or get a full direct bolt on catback

Thanks 2003rangerfx4 makes a little bit more sense now . I appreciate the input. So basically your saying I can have the flowmaster 40 muffler directly welded into the stock exhaust system I have on there now and from there just branch of with the dual pipes? Any suggestion on tips? Hope I'm using the right wording here. The things that go onto the end of the exhaust that stick out the back....

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
Haha ya tips is the right term. You could either have it welded into the stock system or do what most people do and have bigger pipe run. You could do a 2.25 in/2.25 inch dual outlets or 2.5 inch in/out and 3.5 inch tips either straight out the back or behind the rear tires at a 45 degree angle

Re: 2011 4.0 V6 SOHC Sport. Dual Exhast?
in my experience ive never had tips change the sound of my exhaust so dont spend a bunch of money on tips that say they will change the sound. if you want it to look good just get some cheap tips. i dont have a tip on my exhaust and it looks good but its also really thick stainless mandrel bent pipe so it looks good without a tip. if you do duals i think coming out the back corners at a 45 degree angle looks the best in my opinion.
