Default 2.3l Duratec Exhaust System Upgrades

hey everyone, i have a '11 Ranger with 2.3l duratec dohc 4 cyl.. i have been considering upgrading exhaust either with cat back kit or having local exhaust shop do it. Because of right now, it has 2 cats and a muffler thats about 3' long. Which is completely overkill on it, producing what only can be described as hand over end of vaccuum cleaner when under hard acceleration.

I was wondering is factory size exhaust pipes flow exhaust gases efficiently enough for the small 4cyl. Or by going with cat back systems an improvement and improvement over just having my muffler shop remove factory muffler and replacing it with a performance muffler.

if performance muffler is way to go, is a chambered design like a flowmaster, a glasspack, or a turbo style muffler the way to go?
