Got a flowmaster 40
Should i tube it? i just got the muffler but is putting a straight pipe through worth the money? and how much would it cost? Doesnt it add a little horsepower? and if i dump it or put it sport style(before the backwheel) will i get not enough back pressure?

straight pipe isn't literally just a straight piece of pipe.....you know that right?
you got a flowmaster....specs on it? inlet/outlet location? sizes?

Backpressure is the enemy. You do not lose torque due to low amounts of backpressure, you lose torque due to slow moving gases in the exhaust path.

on a 2.3, don't go any bigger than 2" on the tubing. a muffler shop can make that 3" inlet muffler accept a 2" pipe.
you won't gain any power, and you won't lose any power. the nature of flowmasters.

i added a 40 series and a k&n cold air intake kit to mine a couple years back. i cant say there was a big diffrence in preformance it just sounded "cooler". a flowmaster is a fairly straight foward install you just need the proper adapters according to the size pipe you have. k&n was 200$ or so. maybe get a couple more miles per gallon.

maybe not... no wait, definitely not..
If they worked that good it would come on your truck from ford. You could remove the filter completely and not see a gain in hp/mileage/torque..ect...

You could just use several adapters. I don't think I've ever seen one go from 2.25 to 3. I would just go to Autozone/ Advance Auto and start looking through their selection to get up to the size you need.
