Question Exhaust for the 3.0L engine

Hey guys so ive been doing some searching around the site to see what exhaust configuration would be ideal for my truck. I have a 2003 edge 3.0. Ive seen that the flowmaster 40 and 44 seem to be very popular. are these just mufflers or are they whole systems? are these dual exhaust pipes or is this irrelevant? will they fit the 3.0? even tho ive been reading im still a bit confused. Also ive seen some posts that straight pipes are very bad for your vehicle, is this true? I would really like my truck to sound nice but i dont want to screw things up lol sorry about all these questions but im still learning and i would really appreciate all yalls help. thanks

Most people just buy the muffler and have it installed. You could do it either way, but you'll probably save some cash by just buying a muffler yourself. As far as single or dual exhaust that's just a choice you'll have to make. There isn't a difference in performance, at least enough to notice on our trucks. I wouldn't straight pipe it, IMO it doesn't sound very good and there isn't really anything to be gained, however it won't mess your truck up. If you want the least expensive option, buy a muffler and just put a turndown or dump on right at the end of the muffler. It gives it a nice deep sound although it is a little loud in the cab at times.

you can get mufflers with either a single or dual inlet and no straight pipe will not cause any harm.

Yeah you can get mufflers with single outlets or dual outlets. Flowmasters sound good, I have a Thrush Welded which is a copy of the Flowmaster 40. I'm really happy with it and they sell for about $40.
