WHAT a freakin MORON that had this truck B4 me! The sensor that WAS there, obviously had NOT worked in a long time! Anyway, installed the NEW sensor (Yes, the threads were in excellent & UNused condition!), reset the CEL & NOW, on occasion, like after about 30-50 miles I get a code # P0401: Insufficient egr flow. The EGR valve is new, less than 2 weeks old.

ANY ideas on that 1?

Thanks in advance!

I also AGGREE! THIS is the best site I've EVER been on in my life!

the egr valves rarely go bad. they can get dirty and need to be cleaned. your p0401 is probably from a bad dpfe sensor. look that the hoses are not cracked and connected. if they are fine its the dpfe sensor itself.

IS the DPFE sensor the 1 close to the EGR solenoid that controls the vac to the EGR valve? Have a 3 wire plug on it with 2 METAL lines going into 2 RUBBER hozes into a small box of some sort? (I found THIS & never seen 1 before! OR, if I had, I didnt notice it! LOL!)

I'm about ready to go & get another 1998 Ranger! I know THOSE!

Just to bring y'all up to speed:

After spending about $500.00, the DPFE Sensor ($32.00!) was about 75% of the problem. No more O2 codes, just the EGR codes. Replaced the DPFE sensor, the lite went OFF & has NOT came back on in 3 weeks! I also found a setting in my Ranger's cpu that was "ALT FUEL". After my hard reset, I plugged our Genisys II up & found THIS. I clicked enter & NOW I can run the Ethanol crap! (Which is great, since now no station is without the crappy Ethanol.)

THANKS AGAIN many times for the PM's & replies!!!!!

EVERY 1 here has been a BIG HELP!

Greg Johnson.
