Default input/output super 40

i want to get the magnaflow super 40 muffler in the 2.5" in and 2.5" out. my stock muffler is 2" right now. can i buy the 2.5" and take it to a muffler guy and have him bend some pipe and hang it for me?
i guess what im asking is can i put the 2.5" on even though stock is 2"?

Yes. They will just make and adapter to go from 2" to 2.5" and Flowmaster makes the Super 40 muffler.

Yes. Do a complete cat back. I suggest doing single 2.25" all the way back. Or 2.5". I went 2.5 first and sorta regretted it. prices depend from shop to shop. I had my first catback bent and hung for about $150. I LOOOOVED the Super40 I had in mine a few years back. Then fell more in love with the Super44.

To ditch some restriction, I had my shop cut off the factory flange and put on a 3 bolt flange. 2.5" out of the cat, 2.5" flange, 2.5" pipe to the muffler. Stock it's 2.5" out of the cat, then the coupler, then 2" pipe. Restriction. Here's some pics of what I'm talkin' about.

What made you regret doing 2.5" vs. 2.25"? I am looking a mufflers and debating going between 2.25" or 2.5".

I thought it was a little too much pipe for the engine size. But hell...now I'm 2.5" pipe in, dual 2.25" out. lol.

oh ya lol. my bad i ment flowmaster but i was on a magnaflow site lookin at there mufflers haha.
but ok, so ill go ahead and get the 2.5" muffler. how much more expensive would it be to have them do dual pipes out than just a single pipe?

call around. like i said....prices vary ALOT at exhaust shops, just like junkyards. mine ran me 50 more for the extra tailpipe when i redid the catback, but I went to a different shop.

Not a problem. Also I just got me a Thrush Welded from summit for $43 shipped. 2.5" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. I got on youtube and just listened to videos all the time. The flowmaster is nice but I couldn't justify spending $75+ on a muffler. This is the video that sold me on a Thrush.

flowmasters patent ran out on the original 40, so there's alot of knock-offs out there priced at half of flomaster.

if ya enjoy really loud all the time go 2.5... i did 2.25 b/c its loud when ya get on it but its not killer at 2000rpm... if i ever upgrade exaust it'll be a super 44 with pipe out side b4 rear tire.

pipe size generally dont effect loudness.....it minimally effects tone. muffler usually is what effects loudness and so does restrictions and the way it's routed.

2.5 inch single exahust is the right size for the power output on the 4.0's if you have a supercharger or turbo then you need bigger, anything smaller will be too small unless you are going single in dual out. feel free to call flowmaster or try any muffler calculators that or out there and see what they say
