Not always my friend. I don't have a tip on mine at all and yet it sounds like a V8 instead of a 3.0 ricey type of sound. Here's proof shown in a photo:
That's what it looks like as of today. As you can see I have no tip on my cherry bomb glasspack exhaust system. It still sounds like a V8. I have videos of my exhaust system posted in the exhaust video thread. A tip in certain applications can enhance exhaust sounds under certain systems and types. His best bet would definately be to go to a local exhaust shop that knows exactly what they're doing, because alot of them today are just trying to make a quick buck rather than giving the customer what they would need, which is sad.

he was just saying it does amplify, trucks can still sound good without them

idk why i put 10inch, i have an 18 too i must have been tired when i wrote this =)
