flows to put on need advice
the flows i got have a 3" inlet and out let. how do i get it to match up to stock pipe?
was thinking of putting a 2.5 " piece of pipe between the to and weld them. or should i do relief cut and clamp the muffler down to size and weld it?
plus when i am done should i paint the weld?

Hit up a good autoparts store and grab yourself a reducer....one that fits in the inlet of the muffler and the other side fits the over the stock piping. Probably a 3" OD to 2" ID reducer. depending on your inlet pipe size. Also going to need a new hanger since the old hangers were on the stock muffler.
I've made alot of setups work like that. Ugly, but it gets the job done. here's one..
If your muffler isn't an offset in, you're gonna need to make a trip to an exhaust shop and have a new inlet pipe bent up or bend your existing one with a kick up. No need to paint your welds...paints just gonna burn off anyway.

When I get the money to redo my super 44 setup im gonna do a clamp job but mine isnt verticle like stock. It the super 44 is a 4 inch case so there was risk of the driveline rubbling so it was mounted horizontal inder the frame. You cant even see it, especially with the side steps on the truck. When I clamp the new stuff the pipe running from the muffler to the lightning side swept position will be either black cromed or plain chrome. If you were to want color on that sucker then you will have to do powder coating or chrome plating to be able to handle the heat.

Super 40 is 5". super 44 is 4". Why does that matter when mounted vertically? Stock muffler is HUGE compared to a flow or virtually any other aftermarket muffler.
Diagonal is the best position really. Had a shop do my exhaust and my mother brought it in for me....and yay they welded the muffler horizontal. One slight flex, the muffler was hitting driveshaft. There's TONS of room on these trucks for mufflers. Vertical is the ONLY way to do it if using the stock inlet pipe. IMO, new cat-back is the only way to go for a good looking setup, good performing setup, and itll be exactly what you want.
see...
TONS of room...

Not quite sure how that is working out for you. The owner of the muffler shop that I went to had the same truck as me (a year off but still the 2wd 3.0 edge) and when he did a verticle mount of his 44 it rubbed over bumbs constantly. As soon as he mounted horizontal it quit. So im not sure what the difference in our trucks would be to make it sound like that but seeing the grind marks on that guys 44 was enough for me to believe him.
And catback isnt always the BEST... personal preference. Im a side swept exhaust kind of guy when it comes to Rangers, F-150s, and Mustangs... Save the rear catback exhaust for the focus and cobalts.

Sounds to me like an imcompetant exhaust shop that didnt bend his pipes very smart to clear obsticals. Sorry...just what it sounds like to me.
It's amazing the kind of things an experienced hanger/bender can do. I had no clue I could get as much clearence from moving parts as I did. It's what happens when a shop thinks outside the box.
Oh...IDK on 3.0's, but on 4.0's, right behind the last cat is 2.5". After that, there's the 2 bolt spring flange and 2" pipe. Getting rid of that restriction helps. I replaced that with a 2.5" 3-bolt flange.

I wouldnt call them incompetant considering they build off road trucks and dune buggys from scratch in their spare time and compete across the nation in different competitions. I will trust them with any knowledge that they have when I look into their other garage and see all their trophy cases next to the new ford ranger baja racer they are building up. So please dont call out my friends on inexperience. Pretty steep comments coming from you. Sorry...just dont respect guys that assume stupidity.

I don't assume stupidity. I just assume that if a muffler shop couldn't make something work and clear moving parts, what kind of an exhaust shop is it?

Sounds like the assumption of stupidity to me. Its an exhaust show that has been in business for over 40 years and three generations. Not quite sure why I feel then need to defend my friends like this... just dont quite understand... whatever. Lets just assume the east coast off-road/ sand dune champions are wrong about everything for the past 40 years. The end. You win.
