Default Flowmaster exhaust.

I recently decided to install a 40 series Flowmaster on my '96 Ranger; mostly for the sound. I may have changed my mind after reading up a bit. How much power will I lose; is it a noticeable power loss? I'm also putting in a performance air filter, could that even out the loss of power? If all else fails, is there anything that sounds as good as a Flowmaster? I would really like to have that V8 sound.

I had a 40 in mine and didnt like it at all. I stepped up to a super 44 with duals and it made all the difference in the world

Welcome to the forums by the way...Where in PA are you?

Thanks! Hmm, did you lose any power with the Super 44? I thought about getting one of those too. Oh, and I'm from Allentown!

You will never get the v8 sound you seek. I had a 40 dumped and i thought it sounded good. From my experience the 44 is louder but not deeper necessarily. Don't worry about power loss, your head will compensate for the power loss if any. If it's sounds faster is must be lol

Haha. Okay, okay. I know the little 4.0 will never sound exactly like a V8, I just want something as close to it as I can get. What about the Super 10 series, has anyone tried that? Most posts I read said it was very loud, but is it too loud? The Ranger is my daily driver, I'm not looking to wake up my neighbors every time I leave for work.

if anything i gained power from my flowmaster. I have a 60 series and at idle it does sound like a v8, no joke. No exhaust will when you drive though. My brother has the 40 series on his ranger and likes it but he wants louder. the 44 is loud but to me sounds like a sand rail lol. The 60 series has a nice growl and is much much louder than the 40.

edit: i have a vid of how it sounds on here too, just look at the threads i have started.

Thanks guys. I really have no idea what I want to do now, haha. I guess I should have also mentioned that I planned on doing a single in single out (I believe this is why my mechanic told me I would lose power). I'm on a low budget and I will only have the truck for another year or so. In any case, duals with little to no modification on the V6 sounded a little too ricey for me without a catback system. That's just my opinion though!

Williamsport, huh? Not too far from here.

This was my original inspiration, it's a 40 series though. The truck is completely stock with the cats intact.

I like the way it sounds when you get on it. Good pick, I'll definitely consider it. I'm still curious about the Super 10 series though.
