Default Most aggressive sounding exhaust for the v6 4.0?

I have tried both the flowmaster super 44 and a cherry bomb. They sound much better than stock.. like a low rumble but I want something mean. I do like the flowmaster mufflers which are the loudest? And should I go up to 3" piping? (Currently at 2.5)

Cherry Bomb here's why. This is an old trick concerning the glasspacks. Take an Oxyacetelene Rosebud torch and where it says inlet on the glass pack, burn out all of the fiberglass. Let it kool and beat the burnt fiberglass out of the casing. Repeat as needed until ALL of the fiberglass inside the casing is gone. Now after all of this is done "reverse" the muffler and install it right off the header. I also recomend going with a full exhaust setup because loud and mean won't do it justice. Reversing the glasspack is where instead of inlet that is stamped on the outer casing will go towards the rear of your exhaust set up. I did this once and I didn't go with any piping and ended up getting my ears flushed at the hospital after my eardrums started bleeding. 3 Inches is too big and you'll lose power and mpgs in a big way. 2.5 inches would be the maximum I'd go.

They do for the 4.0 engines only, but bring the bank though. They aint cheap at all concerning the price tag.

Ive been running straight pipes for over a year with no hearing degredation. Then again, I wear ear plugs most of the time while driving to cancel out wind noise. As far as mean sounding exhaust, I had a magnaflow on mine for a while, and decided I wanted a meaner sound, so I chopped it off and welded a new pipe in its place, viola! I think it sounds mean as hell. Louder than some of the bigger trucks, and mine has that nice warble in the exhaust note when you really get on it.

----------

I posted two videos in the sticky up top, if you get around the crappy mic on my phone, you can hear what I am talking about. I personally love the sound. Only complaint I have is that if you have a headache, it gets old real fast.

What diameter pipe are you running? Reason I ask is because I also ran straight pipes and it was no louder than my cherry bomb but at the time I used my stock 2.25 piping.. so I don't know how much of a difference 2.5 (What I am currently running) would make. Also I have it out before the rear wheel. My current set up below.

2.5" after cats and the ys to two 2"for the tips. Made a big difference in sound. Cut em off right after the cats and drive around with it like that for an hour, then patch in a straight pipe and enjoy the noise.

Yeah I had strait pipes for at least 2 years after I first got my truck and it was great. But I kept getting too many dirty looks from the popo, and the first time I got pulled over the cop let me go and all, but I said to myself this aint going to work for very much longer, so I started my quest and have finally got what I want.

You'll love cherry bomb afterwards. I promise. I'm on the last page of the official exhaust video thread if you want to hear my exhaust system. here's a photo of my set up that I have now. It still sounds like it did the day I had it installed.

Here's what it looks like today:

Mine is dumped one foot behind the cab. And I chose the 28 inch long glasspack with the stock pipe size for the inlet and outlet (2.25 inches in/out). There's no drone hardly at all and what little there is can be silenced by either the radio or rolling down the window. And it has a nice deep rumble and tone to it. Mine doesn't sound like a typical glasspack at all.

Oh I know. I came really close to buying that muffler till I seen the "off road use only" printed on the box. That's the loudest muffler you can get from cherry bomb period. The only thing that's louder is strait pipe with no cats and wide open headers. Have you seen the single inlet and dual outlet version of it yet? That thing is kool looking.

Yeah, yours sounds really good man. You're posted just above me on the last page of the official exhaust video thread. I like the first video better though. It had a much deeper tone than the second one did. But that's just me though.

On mine I just unbolted the lunchbox under the bed and left the two(i think) mid mufflers and the cat on it gave me that great start up growl and a deep rumble when I get into the gas but just sitting at idle its actually pretty quiet just in case I roll up next to someone in one of those flashy blue and white cars.

But if any of you wish you had that rediculously loud exhaust at times but dont want it all the time you can always run a cut-off valve. even off your current exhuast setup I did that on my old cobalt ss supercharged I had a header back exhaust and on the downpipe just outside the engine bay I put in a cut-off valve for when I wanted to set off car alarms...in peoples garages...within a couple block radius. At the flip of a switch purr went to scream and back again
