Leave your cats on.

Plus, so my exhaust system guy told me, your truck was not designed for duals. If you put duals on these Rangers it is supposed to create problems, that is why we only put on larger pipe. Even then it changes where your engine runs the best, but we all know that we are smarter than some engineer who spent 4 years in college to earn how to spell .

Thats not true. You can run duals on anything. Its all about the pipe diameter.

If your going to duals, dont run a larger than 2.25 pipe to keep up back pressure. If your going to run a single, then got up to about a 2.5 diameter exhaust.

And to the OP. Our cats are designed not to be restrictive. There is no point in taking them off.

Not to mention that the gas tank is in the way of running true dual exhaust.

yeah.... thanks... someone actually sounds like they know what they are talking about... and the gas tank isnt on the way in mine... had the kustomz guy do some reorginizing of that..

but this is the question. im putting new headers... then straaight back with a flowmaster super 44 on each pipe... ive seen one like that.. it sounded beastly and it increased performance.. :/ cssranger90 = soooo lost

Even 2 1/4" may be too large for duals. I know most people seem to say "up to 2 1/2" for single exhaust", but there are some who won't go over 2 1/4" for a single.

Since you truck is a street truck, you might be more concerned with higher speeds and RPM as opposed to instant torque, but I don't see how you could run a setup with two pipes with that large of a diameter and not lose some much-needed back pressure. Unless you do a V-8 swap first.

we dont have inspections in south dakota... most people here around sturgis dont even have any pipes... they just cut off everything... i would be more than okay... but i was just wondering if it would give me more performance if i did this???

for what its worth, the performance increase would not be significantly better. what other mods do you have planned/ have you already done, because just changing the exhaust alone wont give you any noticeable performance increase, only thing noticeably changed would be sound

I pulled my cat off because it wasn't doing much good after the previous owner put a hole in it.

in my personal opinion, i think the costs outweigh the benefits if your just doing headers. they arent really cheap, its somewhat difficult to get the headers in and out, and the overall effects are meant to compliment an intake, etc... all the stuff that improves the engine as a whole. changing just one aspect wont get much performance gains.

i did this to my 99 v6 f150 only because my stock exhaust broke and was unrepairable. not only that i was also dead broke at the time with 2 flowmaster that i had around for a very long time. i welded pipe on both of the cats and welded the mufflers on with dumps. sounds very good but cant feel much of a difference, and my gas mileage whent down

ill get some pics later
