Default Stock diameter or larger?

Im trying to pick up these brand new JBA headers for 200, so now Im thinking about doing my exhaust. I want to put a flowmaster or whatever and dump it before the rear axle. Is there any benefit to having a 2.5" tubing coming off the mid-pipe/cats going into the muffler? Its pretty short, I dont know if its work the effort or not go get larger tubing. I want the best flow for mileage & power to compliment the headers.

Mine was 2.5" coming from the last cat to the flange before the muffler stock, so I extended that to the new muffler and ran 2.25" pipes out the muffler to the back. Works great, but I wouldn't go any bigger then 2.5".

It should be, mine dropped from 2.5 to 2.25 to go into the stock muffler, I said wtf and matched it all the way to the muffler. The 3.0s can handle a 2.5" pipe no problem.

Cool, just looking to get max gains out of the exhaust on a stockish engine. Headers should wake it up a bit with a nice muffler and really set off the head work.

question: 2004 ranger edge that i own, has a 2" piping from cats all the way to the muffler. its doesnt even change size either. now will 2 1/4 suffice or should i go to 2 1/2? i wanna go before the wheel. lastly, on magnaflows website, before the wheel the muffler is 8x8x14 however, for single rear passneger exit the muffler size is 5x8x18. now is there such a big difference in 4" in muffler pipe? dont want it too loud but better than stock. thnkz

X2. anything over 2.5 inches on a 3.0 would be a mistake which I made once. I lost power and fuel economy because of it too.

Your stock pipe size is 2.25 inches. I have the same model you do and from what I was told that's pretty much the standard exhaust size on all V6 rangers. Now the 4 banger might be different now, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't different either. You see Ford pumps vehicles out like there's no tomorrow and they don't want to spend the extra time or money on exhaust systems like you or I would. They really don't give 2 shits about what they produce to the public really, they just want our money and they've been known to leave their customers with an empty bag after the sale takes place too.
