Question Headers and emissions

Just wondering if I were to install a set of headers on my truck, would it in any way affect (as in fail) the results of an emissions test?

I don't really want to mess with the Y pipe with converters so would a set of headers bolt right up to the factory Y pipe and connect to my EGR as well? I'm pretty sure it has driver side EGR.
