Default O2 Sensor replacement?????

Hey guys i have a 93 4.0l v6 i can get around 9-10 mpg if im lucky. When i bought the truck i got 15 mpg off of a 20 gallon tank. There is 174000 miles on the truck. Could the O2 sensors have gone bad and arent reading right? Ive been doing some reading and people have said with obd1 sensors arent checked often enough and can become "lazy" and cause the engine to run rich causing excessive fuel consumption. I also have a exhause leak right after the header before the down pipe. Could this be causing a bad reading for the sensor? Also if i replace the sensors any tips to get those free. 18+ years of rust isnt fun and isnt going to make the process easier. Thanks.

I would start by fixing that exhaust leak. You would be amazed by how much it improves your throttle response and fuel economy. Especially since its right after the header.

^x2 fix the exhaust leak... and as to replacing the o2 sensor what you may end you doing it taking it to a muffler shop with the new o2 sensor and have them weld in another bung all together i had to have that done and it only cost me somewhere in the range of 5-10 bucks....
