Which muffler should I get?

Hey there! I got my 07 Ranger Sport last August, and it's my first vehicle. I'm about to graduate and am thinking about asking for some mods as gifts.

One of the things I want is a new muffler, but I'm not sure what I should get. I'd like my truck to be louder, but not obnoxious, and save on fuel if possible. (Also getting cold air, and hoping that neither mod will sound ricey...)

Any advice would be great, thanks!!

well here are the facts, a muffler will not give you any MPG rise, and neither will a Cold air intake. Now you can get a programmer and then a CAI and that will give you some performance in turn. All the muffler will do is make a nice tone and sound.

Gibson catback. I had one on my 05 ranger. Sounded great when you get on it, but was quiet and didnt drone when you were just driving around.

save your money and cut it off and strait pipe it. i wasted my money on one. but yours is a 3.0L lota guys on here say they dont soudn gud strait piped.

i did a cherry bomb glasspack side sweep with a borla tip and sounds like my dads dodge ram witha 5.7l

I have thrush duel's and they sound great to me.
BUT its your truck and your choice I think the best thing you can do is go onto youtube and look up Magnaflow, Flowmaster, thrush, Gibson and so on till you find what you like

I did once and it didn't do to well. I don't agree with what you said earlier about no gain with a muffler change. I gained enough to notice and that was it. Overall with a muffler change, switching from 5W20 to 10W30 motor oil, and using a K&N O.E.M direct replacement air filter I gained about 4 to 5 miles per gallon. The CAI KIT IS A WASTE OF MONEY. If you got some other performance mods to go along with it then maybe it wouldn't be, but I seriously doubt it.

once again i find a post where you're giving wrong info.

while companies who advertise intake and exhaust systems will gain you MPG's, they may exaggerate the numbers but do not lie.

what does this mean? your engine can run more efficiently. it is not starving for air due to a less restrictive/free-er flowing intake system, and does not have to waste energy trying to force exhaust gasses out of the cylinders. that shows when you fill up the tank. if you're like me, you re-set your trip odometer at fill up and log how many miles you get to a tank. i have a volant intake and a magnaflo 2.5 catback system on my 3.0. i'm pushing 33x12.5 all terrains, mostly freeway driving. before my intake and exhaust, i was getting around 16-17 mpg. with them on, i am getting 18-20. it's not my driving style having been changed, i use cruise control as much as possible.

i know several other people who can attribute gains in MPG from an intake/exhaust system on various trucks/cars. my brother showed 2-3mpg increases from his systems on his mazda 3, and several buddies of mine mentioned similar gains.

That makes some sense, but the CAI kits I was talking about that I've seen were usually metal. They might be smoother on the inside yes and not restrict the airflow sure, but they'll heat up just as quick if not faster. Smoother airflow is a definite key though. That would be the only thing I would do to my truck, which is change the air intake tube, and only that. I'd also add this:

along with some header wrap to reduce under the hood temps. Your 3.0 V6 already has a CAI built in (Upper and Lower intake manifolds).

You're a little bit off on the muffler change my friend. You'll gain enough to notice on the muffler change, but that's about it.

I have Dual Magna Flow Exhaust along with a K & N air filter. Super nice sound to my truck. The K & N give it a sweet sound under the hood to accompany the twin pipes.

I got a 2002 ranger fx4 I want to it to sound nice and loud. I want to have dual angle cut tip pipes straight out the back too. Can I have some suggestions? And prices, what would they be.
