Default For those with chrome tips.

How do you go about cleaning all the tar/soot off of them? Do you just go at it with some steel wool, or do you some sort of cleaning product?

I was cleaning the ones on my Chev with steel wool, but it's hard work. A guy I know said it would scratch the tips, but me not having mud flaps for a while scratched them more then the steel wool has.

I've been using steel wool (SOS pads) on my chrome for years and have never scratched it, I even use it on my stianless tips to remove the burned on road grime. I've found the SOS pads work better than anything else I've tried.

a wet SOS pad will work, but do it gently... I use "000" steel wool wet/use soap as a lubricant.. and if you keep the chrome waxed it will last 4 times as long...

i've just gradually let mine go, used to polish them with "never dullz" and it worked great.. then they started to rust (ebay special tips=no bueno) so now i let them rot until they rust through and i decide to buy new ones.

I use Mothers Mag & aluminum polish , works great & it will remove the baked on road crap.
