Default Flowmaster 40 not loud enough...

Just got my flowmaster 40 series installed and needles to say, Im not very pleased with it. I was hoping it would be alot louder than it is. I can barely hear it. I hear it more when my truck is at an idle.... hmm, so now what?? I want it louder and more of a rumble. suggestions??

a V6 isnt gonna be very loud. It will be a low rumble if anything.

Yeah man idk, it may travel further than you think too. I got no muffler on mine and i like that pretty much, but i thought it was quiet too. Next thing you know people were telling damn man i heard you coming from bla bla and bla bla. Mines the 4.0 though.

I just got the flowmaster 40 too. It's got a nice rumble at start up and idle.. and during acceleration. I can barely hear it cruising down the road, my engine makes more noise honestly. But, I didn't want to be able to hear it drone anyway on long highway trips.

I don't know how much "break-in" time a muffler needs, but I've heard they get louder? I could be wrong. The super 44 is supposed to be louder. I will eventually dynomat the interior anyway, then I might try for something louder. But, my exhaust guy told me I could bring it back in a week if I didn't like it and try a different muffler, but so far I'm happy.

The FLowmaster won't really break in and get louder. That usually pertains to resonators, bullets and shotguns where the design is straight through with fiberglass packing around the outside. Flowmaster in general is not that loud, even on a V8, so I am not surprised it isn't much louder on a 3.0 v6; and that's why I never recommend Flowmaster (plus, hp gains are less because of the traditional muffler design Flowmaster uses; but that isn't a huge worry on our Rangers as aftermarket exhausts do not add much power).

Yeah I was thinking about going with no muffler but I heard that could be bad for the truck. Loss of power?

There shouldn't be any hp loss from removing a muffler. If you are talking about "backpressure" being needed for the engine, then i must inform you that it is a myth and untrue for a NA engine
