Default Recommend low cost exhaust solution?

Hello forum viewers!

My question to be submitted today is this. I recently discovered I have around 4 leaks in my exhaust system! This starts where the pipe coming from the manifold connects to the pipe that just comes out underneath the truck (sorry I don't know much about exhaust systems yet so my description might be lame) I believe this pipe connects to the next pipe w/ the cat by 2 bolts. The 2 bolts appear to be loose causing a leak there. I also have a leak in a pipe further down the line, in the muffler, and I thought somewhere else. It has been recommended I replace the entire system from the manifold pipe back. I was told I could possibly salvage the cat by having a new flange welded on as it was revealed to me this flange is known for breaking during disassembly.

I guess my question is what is a decent low cost solution for replacing my exhaust system. I know a new cat is going to be a bit expensive but I would like to keep the total job below 150-200 if possible. I plan to do the work myself.

Thx for any info! I'll try and get some photos to share tomorrow if I get it on the lift in my class.

Wily

LOL,

I would be lying if I said the idea didn't come to mind. I will probably be doing this in one of my classes and I have to do it "the right way" in the class. Otherwise the idea certainly crossed my mind.

thx :P lol

if you have an autozone you can go there and you can get a muffler for about 25-30 bucks. i think they have pretty good sections of pipe as well. don't know if you can get the cat there or not.

cut the whole thing out of there and take it up to your local exhaust shop and they should be able to run flowmaster super 40 series for under 180.
