We have no proof of this happening, other than your word.

I still have a cat, but it's signifigantly smaller than the OEM one, and I lost 2-3 MPG over factory. If you decided to take off your cat, you would have to deal with a CEL as well as poor gas mileage.

i wont take off my cat. it will already be enough trouble to weld on exhaust. i must say though mufflers are so damn expensive in canada $97 for a flow master 40, and no i wont dump my exhaust its too much reverb for me. thanks for your help guys.

Removing the catalytic converter does increase horse power and torque, it would create less restriction in the exhaust. It may or may not improve fuel mileage. First thing you do to improve performance is remove the cat, cats only job is emissions. Take the cat out. Don't listen to wing nuts telling you cats are beneficial to engine performance cause they aren't!

Unless you have a high hp vehicle, removing the cats does not increase horsepower and torque. On a vehicle like a ranger, it does more harm than good since it reduces the performance of the engine.

High hp cars have enough power to overcome the back pressure loss that results from removing cats, but vehicles like a ranger need that back pressure from the cats.
