Default Stock Exhaust Size?

What would be the stock exhaust size on my 2011 Ranger Sport 4.0L?

I was thinking 2.25" just by looking at it, although I never actually got under and measured.

By chance would that be the same for a 2004 with a 4.0?

Thanx!

2.25 inches is the stock pipe size on all rangers since around 1996. Pretty much since OBD2 started because earlier than that use to be around 2 inches. That's when the exhaust pipe size changed to 2.25 inches, 1996 and newer. 4.0's, 3.0's , and 2.4 liter engines all have had the same pipe size since 1996.

maybe i didn't give enough detail, i need a piece to put into the exhaust. basically i am cutting some out of the pipe so i will need the ends spread to match the size of the existing pipe for a nice tight fit. I would want the outer diameter of the existing pipe to match the inner diameter of the new pipe.

and that is why i need to know if that 2.25 is inner or outer

Well when I used to fab mine with elbows and pieces and u bolts the open end is wided already to the correct dia. you just gotta know what size it is your going to or coming from. So for example if you need a 45 elbow as long as it says 2.25 on it you got the right size pipe. If it says 2" or 1-7/8 those would be wrong sizes.

If you need a straight length just make sure it has a widen flange on both ends or you will need to mickey mouse a couple pieces together to get that.

There have been times when I only had a straight piece with no wide end and I had to hack saw a slot and pound it on. But that was back in my beater days.

i see what you mean, but the place where i am buying the pieces have them marked as 2.25" ID and 2.25" OD. so they give you two options.

you would need the OD at the ends. then you'd slip the old pipe into the 2.25 OD ends. If the whole patch pipe is 2.25 OD that's ok that just means you can cut it to fit so buy long just in case but have a sawsall to cut to lenght.

let me add that if the two ends under the truck have their wide flanges then you would 2.25 ID pipe so they would slide inside of the old pipe.

and they sell pipe patches with ID on one end and OD on the other for mixed jobs.

assemble first bfore you tighten any ubolts cause once you tighten them you'll have to cut the pipe off if you made a mistake.

Thank you kind sir!

i did end up reading some other threads and it looks like 2.25 is the OD of the existing pipe. so i will do what you recommend and get a 2.25 ID pipe and cut it to fit

thank you!
