That's how it is/was in my neighborhood at the auto parts store. Again i haven't had to repair an exhaust pipe for a very long time so I'm just going from memory. Some of you weren't even born yet the last time i did that.

How long has it been? An autoparts store is not really a good place to be buying exhaust piping from that much is certain. If the exhaust shop doesn't know which size to use, then I'd be finding a new shop because it's been the same pipe size for the last 15 years.

Well back when I was putting heardes and glass packs on my new 77 blazer. I went to the corner "REAL" auto parts joint not the chain store TrakAuto and I would buy sections, straight, 90's, and 45's and a hand full of clamps and hangers. No one I knew could afford to go to the muffler shop for custom bended pipe.

This was back when Big Foot was merely a Ford F350. Monster Trucks were not even a dream yet.

I don't know what it is about this truck I went to pep boys napa and advanced auto they are always so confused by my system. The stock pipe auto zone gave me was totally off it was a 2 in. I was trying to make my flow master setup someone had a Gibson cat back on it, but anyways nobody could actually give me the right size so I said screw them and went under there with a dial caliper mine is 2.5 cat back all custom made and stuff. No idea what the normal size should be bad every auto parties store sucked.

2001 4.0l sohc v6 4*4 77,000 motor swap (last owner never changed oil), brush guard off road lights, intake, flowmaster exhaust, painted intake/valve covers, fisher plow.

Just ask the people at the Auto Parts Store? Not what SIZE it is, but to just dry fit it! Mine lets me take WHATEVER outside to see if I like how its going to look or work!

Or better yet, do like I do NOWADAYS, get you a Digital Caliper and take ALL the guess work out. Period. Get SPECIFIC ID and OD measurements - down to the 1000th of an inch! I love being a part time machinist! Haha!

I made my "homemade catback! just a couple weeks ago! Though I haven't got the tip yet, to dump it towards the ground, the little loud bastard runs A LOT better! BUT THE LOUDNESS HAS TO GO ! Previous owner kept ALL stock piping except put a correct size pipe in the cats place (aka no cat) AND he had JUST a resignator on there, in the MUFFLERS position! Sheesh!!! Well I fixed if with the material I HAD and used stock piping + reducers to make a 2.5" "Thrush Turbo" fit this thing! After the extra piping and resognated tip im going to use, it SHOULD sound better!

Here's some shots of what I made...

OLD PIPING AND RESIGNATOR... SUPER RESTRICTED!

And that's that Jack! Ha... I've SINCE welded up a MUCH better pipe clamp hanger and it looks damn good! Just gotta finish of that open end and "dampen" the sound JUST A TAD!

did you spray anything over the bare metal? could hit with with some vht, let engine warm up some, turn it off, and let it bake on there. i do that, it seems to hold up OK for how much it costs to do it. better than nothing. good job tho man nothing like a mess of exhaust clamps and it looks like your connection is strait on.

My stock exhaust size on my 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 XLT 4x4 was 2" intermediate pipe and 2" tailpipe. There was a 2.25" tailpipe flange at the end.
