Default So how do you do an exhaust RIGHT??

So everybody on this forum is trying to hack of the exhaust at the cats or gut the cats or run a straight pipe or something that doesnt sound good. If i want to do an exhaust on my ranger the right way how would i go about doing that. I mean hey if those are all actually decent ideas then great let me know but i dont want to rig my truck up to have the sketchiest mods around haha

if you want it done right buy a complete exhaust kit, or take it to a shop and have a custom exhaust put on, or build one yourself if you have the skills.

some people like the sound and the ease of hacking it behind the cats, others like the stock sound. it depends on what you want. there are plenty of companies that build exhaust kits just for your truck, those are one of the "right" ways to do it.

you'll find a few types on the internet. all vary in price and quality.

you can get a full system which could include new piping, cats, and exhaust to replace your whole system.

most popular i would think would be a new performance muffler that would have a single inlet and dual outlet to run out the backside of the truck. dynaflow, magnaflow, flowmaster...all these types of companies have options.

sorry i didnt give an example of something that works great but like the poster above said, it just depends what you want.

check youtube for exhaust videos to get some ideas maybe?

good luck.

The right way would be to buy headers, y-pipe and full piping and muffler from a company like borla and have it all stainless steel. This way it will be done once and will never have to be touched again. I personnaly have used SS before in exhaust and I believe it has a different sound, but to the better.

if you want good system you will spend alot of cash on it like i did. here is what i got. I have true dual flowmaster super 40's(the piping is 2'' and there are two sets of pipes one for each bank of cylinders) with two high flow cats one for each side and a x pipe to even the flow of exhaust gases. and then i had it routed behind the passenger side rear tire and added stainless steel tips. a system like mine was close to 800 bucks with everything

you know man honestly its very crowded, ill take some pics tomorrow cause my spare tire almost gets in the way. i literally have like 1/4 inch of space between the tire and the pipe. but if you do dont run anything bigger than 2 inches. you still need some back pressure on the engine to get a good running start at a light

depends on the state really.. im from texas and we do emissions inspection and yes it does.. the cats are 49 state legal and the O2 sensors are still in the stock place. so i would say yes it does. i know that florida doesnt have a state inspection which is really nice for the guys that live down there. but if you are in cali i would say my exhaust would be screwed completely. seeing how my truck was not cali emission passable from the factory

this is false. it may not be designed for sale in california, but you could bring your truck to ca and it will pass smog. and in its current state, you would be fine except you might need to change the cats to a factory or ca-compliant obdII cat.

I thought california had special smog emission tests and strict OBD2 rules... its not designed for sale in california because of the emissions. beign from texas we dont even have a emissions test. we do have the simple test and they look for gas leaks and check the computer and that is it. but they dont check the PPM in texas, and even then the PPM is different than california and none of the cars around here are low emission vehicles approved by the "CARB". thats why there are 49 state legal cats and then the "CARB" approved cats.

california has strict rules, but nothing can legally stop you from bringing your 49-state car into CA, smogging and registering it here. carb cats are simply tested for efficiency by the california air resources board. why they have to be tested when your pcm is doing the testing while youre driving? shit if i know. i just know the laws
