Taking off the caddy.
How would I go about doing this?

Maybe the catalytic converter?
If so, not only is it illegal, it won't really accomplish anything unless it's plugged. They are expensive brand new, might want to leave it be.

Illegal. Not worth the effort.
If you are worried about your CAT restricting flow, buy a high-flow cat. Though if you are not having any problems with your current CAT it's just a waste of money.

Take it off and see how the truck runs if it runs better than it probably is clogged
A new converter is like $495.99 at autozone
288.99 @ rockauto.com
Most junkyards do not hold these either

you should look into high-flow cats which are less restrictive

if you remove the cat what are you going to do with the air sensor that read the back pressure and if it sends the wrong code to the CPU could it crash the computer?

just remember there are TONS more sensors and stuff on the newer rigs. If its any newer than a 96-97 i'd just leave it in for computer sake... in general i would. but high flow cats cost depend on the year of the truck. for instance my 93 ranger (4.0L) i can get a high flow cat for like 150 on the high end. I've looked, but don't care enough to buy one yet. but if ya really wanna pull it out, better expect your rig to not run right.
x2 on the unbolt, but if the truck has too many miles its gonna be tough to pull out cause they will be really rusty.
