Default Good type of exhaust for 04 Ranger?

I was looking at a down turn pipe or one that comes out front of the rear wheel. Are these any good? Any muffler suggestions?

The 4 most popular muffler brands (in no particular order) for Rangers seem to be:
1) Gibson
2) Borla
3) Magnaflow
4) Flowmaster

If you search around there are various sound clips and some good insight on the mufflers. The pipe location has a lot to do with the sound and look you're going after.

What if I wanted a deeper sound but still loud?

That sounds pretty good. If it's mounted with a turndown that means the tip is pretty hidden correct?

yea, you can only see the exhaust from under the truck or looking down through the wheel well.

i think the 4.0L sounds good with any exhaust though
but i always here of flowmaster and magnaflow on not only Ranger's but most cars as the best exhausts for their price

ive got a flomaster super 44 sitting in my room waiting to be put into a 3.0L. if you dump the exhaust you gotta take into account the type of driving you do. if your in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic, it may be wise to get a side exit rather than a dump, sometimes the exhaust fumes can travel up into the cab and then theres trouble. but you should be fine if your constantly moving and stuff

the dump tip would be under the bed, so would not have to worry about the fumes
