Its the truth about the rubbing. Had a budy with a 4x4 and it rubbed constantly against each other. The shop that I went to had a guy tha worked there that had the same truck as me and he had his driveline rubbing against the 4 inch case with just a 2wd. It has to go horizontal under the main chassis if you get a flow 4 inch case.

the super 44 has to lay horizontal for it to function and sound right or has to because that's the only way for it to fit?

im wondering wat everyone would suggest for an exhaust system for my 04 ford ranger 4.0 v6 (manual). i would like the sound to be smooth and not all raspy. as far as loudness goes i dont want it super loud but i would like a nice rumble to it.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm raspy I would look at Thrush, deep rumble, Flowmaster, Dynomax, you amy want to look at their websites some of them have soundclips. just know that the intake has a good deal to do with the output, as well as headers.

Its sound fine sideways until it starts rubbing from chassis flexing. It has to lay horizontal because thats the only way it will fit. The 3 inch case mufflers are fine in the stock position but the super 44 is a 4 inch so it has to go horizontal.

Super 44 isnt the absolute loudest but it has a true muscle rumble to it and it releases the most hp out of any flowmaster. You wont hear much of it from a I4 but a V6 or V8 will make it sing!

ive got mine going vertical, it may be bad for it but so far its working out fine, great sound. you just need to make sure you cut the stock pipe at a point where the pipe is level or angled up, or else the muffler sticks out like a sore thumb

Put the muffler horizontal and flush up against the chassis frame. That will keep it away from the driveline and out of the way. Sounds the same either way.

I have a 4.0L SOHC and i'm running 2.5in piping (with all my cats still installed) into a single chamber Magnaflow (1 input 2 out) going to two 3in. tips angled sideways coming out before the right rear tire... Looks good, and sounds better than the huge magnaflow that the previous owner had put on(it was mounted vertically and was similiar size to the huge flowmaster that everyone is talkin about).. BUT, it is a lil on the loud side, but that is also partially due to my K&N intake.. It has a great rumble at low RPM's and sounds amazing when the gas pedal is stomped (turns heads all the time)

I have an Edge edition so its a stock 2 inch lift on it. With my stock nerf bars you can't even see it unless you look under the steps and it still has plenty of clearence. Now if you do lots of off roading where giant rocks come close to your chassis then it would be a problem. Im keeping my truck to mainly a street truck for now so its perfect.
