Default true duals for a 4.0

Can anyone tell me if true duals are of benefit and if so what type of power and/ or mileage increase am I looking at. also what would I have to add - another cat, muffler, tail pipe? Thinking about putting dual cherry bombs on it. That way they can see and hear me coming!!

This is on an 07 Ranger STX with a 4.0 that I just got about 10 days ago. Thinking about the OHC and a diff dome light - I'm old and need lot's of light to see!!

I have it done on mine. Dual everything... Cats, 4 O2 sensors, 2 mufflers, dual side pipes. You really wont get much of an increase in mileage. I think I got .5 mpg. Just seemed to breathe better, and with the tuner I added, seems to run a little quicker as well.

Thats why he's not an exhaust guy, but a guy who takes prebents off a rack and puts them together. you have to run them along side of each other on the passenger side of the drive shaft. Get past the tank, then route second pipe accordingly. I have them both exiting on the right side. It was a mock up I did to make sure it all fit. Ill take pics tomorrow and post them. Ive had it for about 6 months now and I have had no problems. This weekend, however, Im going true dualed side outlet infront of the ride rear tire.

Non dual exhaust can be OK. I got these...non-coated (coatings available) headers and the cat-back exhaust..all are stainless steel and fit as advertised. Can be quiet when you want and sound good. You can choose OX sensor fitting on left, right or none. All made to fit to the stock Y-pipe which you keep with the cats.

I have heard from an effeciency standpoint it is better to at least run together to the muffler than break off to duals. This is because each side creates a vaccum of sorts to pull any remaining exhaust gas out to the exit on the respective side. I have them going from the y pipe right to a 3" into my flowmaster than dual outs. It sounds good.

I dont have any pictures but i have true duals on mine and i will tell you it was a squeeze to get it in there. if you do decide to go true dual i would keep factory size tubing and run a x pipe. i have a x pipe on mine and it quites the cab down on the highway and still has a nice sound in the upper RPM's. also it evens out the flow of pressure and adds a little torque to it. The only thing i noticed is that i have a loss of power slightly.. not enough backpressure in the pipes. I have a CAI and a tuner. Im currently running aftermarket high flow cats (2 of them) an xpipe, and flowmaster super 40's mufflers and have the side exhaust out the rear tire.

Are you serious?? LMAO! What makes any exhaust "true duals" is to have a seperate pipe coming from each side of the engine, all the way to the rear. Doing away wit hthe "Y" pipe. It doesn't make them NOT "true duals" just because you put an X in to join them together and then into 2 again. The X just equalizes the pressures in the pipes, and is supposed to help with scavenging I believe..

for them to be true duals you can not have an x pipe

just bc you have 2 pipes coming out the back does not mean you have true duals it just means you have 2 pipes coming out the back

if they each come from the engine WITH OUT JOINING then they are true duals
if they join at any time then THEY ARE NOT TRUE DUAL

easiest way to tell is cover the opening of 1 of the pipes with your hand, if no pressure builds up then the pipes are combined some where if pressure builds up then you have true dual exhaust

i dont give a flying f**k what they told you at the shop
they just want to charge you more money and rip you off
and i cant believe that people are falling for it

----------

o and only 2 cycle engines scavenge
4 cycles do not

scavenging is where both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time
