Default no cat in exhaust

ive heard of people taking out their clogged cats but no replacing them and just letting the exhaust run..i was just wondering if this is bad for your car (no back-pressure?) and i obviously know its bad for the environment..also, wouldn;t it be excessively loud and could you get a ticket for the condition of your vehicle?? thanks

It is just BAD. As you say, it's bad for the environment. It does very little, if anything at all, to increase performance. I have also heard it can cause the O2 sensors to have inaccurate readings, which can cause the CEL to come on, and jack up the way the vehicle runs. It's totally pointless.

Some people make a phoney cat for those emission test that you haev to have in some states

They just gut the cat out and put a straight pipe through it. There is a way to bypass the O2 sensor and the CEL light coming on but I dont recall how it is done

i guess every pound counts to some guys
maybe people do it cause they THINK it will increase power but in REALITY is does almost nothing, also i forgot about the O2 sensor part.

It's also a federal offense. In the US, at least.

It might be some what louder if you had a aftermarket exhaust. I doubt u would notice any difference with stock muffler

it actually hurts your vehicles performance. the engine wasnt designed to run with straight pipes all the way and will always have something wrong with it.

Why not get a hi-performance cat? Kinda like having your cake with ice cream.

It wouldnt increase power on a Ranger

A vehicle that creates more compression like a Diesel or any turbo/procharged/supercharged vehicle, straight pipes ideal for it cause no back pressure.
