Default exhaust thermal wrap. yea or no?!!

I am thinking of doing a custom setup for my truck, and exhaust thermal wrap came in mind.. Should i put it on or not? I was reading and it keeps the heat in which results in improved sound and maybe HP?? thanks!

when i used it on my big truck it messed everything up made headers crack gaskets blow because it was holding in to much heat if you get new headers on the warning labels it says in big bold letters "DO NOT USE HEADER WRAPS ON THIS PRODUCT" so that must mean something

Depends on the products its used with and the application. My friend's turbo 5.0 mustang has header wraps with no problems. But as you've read, some people have had problems...I dont know about gaining HP...think its more to keep the heat away from other stuff.

Another problem that I've heard with wraps is if you don't put them on just perfect they will allow moisture to remain in contact with the pipes, rusting them out faster.

IMO, if your interested in the 1-5 HP you could get from this type of mod is to just take the exhaust off and take it to a shop to be ceramic coated and see if they can coat the insides as well. Coating the insides is key, as it will add a second layer of thermal insulation, but also keep the heat away from the pipes themselves which is they key to keeping them from cracking.

Edit: Afterthought, with wraps it is very difficult to wrap the headers themselves (the part that bolts to the engine, forgive me if this section has a name) as well as the downpipes. This causes temperature differentials, the pipes will be hotter than the rest. This would lead to heating/cooling cycles that are different for the pipes than the header. After a while metal fatigue kicks in and.... crack.

Wraps are a temporary solution IMO to be used by racers or other people that might have a reason to take the wraps off. Ceramic coating should do a much better job overall and not have any of the problems of wraps.
That being said, wraps are something you could do yourself, ceramic coating is not.
