gibson exhaust system
ok everyone so i was looking for an exhaust system for my 2002 fx4 with the 4.0 5 speed. i seen everyone doing the flowmaster and magnaflow thing, and normally i love magnaflow, but i found this system from gibson http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com...rd-Ranger-2002 and these headers from them to http://www.realtruck.com/ordering/e_scart.php . now i have read that people say that the headers are not worth the money for the power they put out, but what about the sound? also any opinions on cats from header to cat-back system? for now im ordering the k&n cold air intake but soon the stock exhaust will have to go. hope to get some help from everyone maybe someone with a similar exhaust, videos maybe? thanks alot.
Aaron

Re: gibson exhaust system
just do the cat back, no point in spending money on the headers to get a little better sound realistically. The gains you will have from a cat back or cat back with headers is so minimal that for the price it is really not worth the cost on a stock engine. I had a Gibson exhaust for a bit on my Lightning and it was good quality and went together well. Can't speak for the ranger model, but I think you'll be happy with it. From what I remember Gibson isn't the loudest exhaust on the market but offers a nice tone. On a side note, I would return the CAI your bought and use the money elsewhere.

Re: gibson exhaust system
why does everyone suggest flowmaster? do you guys get a little more power or something? cant be the sound. I have a Gibson and it sounds nasty. Very good quality and extremely easy installation. Everything lines up perfect.

Re: gibson exhaust system
^^^^^^I can't image any power difference between the 2, I think it's because of the price flowmaster muffler you can buy under $180 and have a shop weld it in for about $50, where the gibson is around $300 for the SS version. The sound might bet a little different as well, so it might be a matter of preference. I also think it's kinds like why a lot of people are running BFG's on this forum.... something that has been tested and used and performs well.

Re: gibson exhaust system
I got the Gibson dual kit for the simple fact that it was a kit, and that it was on sale didn't hurt either. I may substitute a Flowmaster muffler in the future purely for the sound factor.

Is the Gibson quiet? Or too loud? why would you put a flowmaster on instead? Reason I ask is because I'm looking into a Gibson exhaust right now and I want it to be relatively quiet when it's idling (not so quiet you don't hear its on, but not so loud that I annoy people in the early morning when I wake up for work) .... and I don't want any cabin drone if I'm just cruising on the highway at 65mph (as I have a 45 min commute to work in the mornings, and I'm usually half asleep and like to keep it that way until I get to work).

Re: gibson exhaust system
i have the gibson extreme duel exhaust and it sounds to me like you want what i hear from my truck. Ive got the K&N cold air intake also. My truck isnt very loud. its got a nice quiet tone at idle and has a nice hum accelerating. Personally i want something considerably louder. But theres practically no cab noise and gave a nice low end boost in power for around town. Its totally up you what your looking for in an exhaust. Gibson is designed for low rpm performance rather than high rpm. It did however give me better mpg after i lifted my truck and havent gotten gears for it yet so its serving a purpose for me

Re: gibson exhaust system
i have the flowmaster super 44 and it dumps right out of the muffler it sounds like a v8 at idle but it is not at all loud and u can hear it on the gas but it also isn't deafning and if u want to really hear it u have to push the pedal to the floor and than all i hear is engine lol but reason i got it is i tried alot of others and i found flowmaster has the sound i want and fully welded muffler along with it fits right in there and u can see it on the bottom but it never catches on anything well offroading i have even thought of another one but idk lol i think one is fine and loud enough
