Default Broken Bolt

Hey guys, new around here, I also posted in the intro section.

Just bought a 96 ranger with a 4.0. The guy i bought it from installed pace setter headers to replace the exhaust manifolds. While doing this he broke the head off of one of the bolts. Its the top rear on the drivers side, nearest the steering column.

So now I have a nice ticking leak at that spot, Any suggestions on getting that bolt out? It started to come out when he broke it, and there is still about 1/4" of the bolt sticking out, but it wont' budge.

Thanks!

Brian

You'll probably have to remove the header to get at it. You can try a bolt extraction tool (Sears sells them as well as Habor Freight) but you migh not have enough room to get the too in there. If the too doesn't work, vise grips should do the trick.

Before doing either spray the $hit out of it with liquid wrench or PB Blaster and let it soak for a while.

Yeah, I've been spraying it all week. I am sure I'll have to get the header out of the way.

Any links to what this tool looks like? Is it an easy out type tool?

It looks like an exact reverse of an easy out. Here's a link to the set Harbor Freight Sells. http://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece...ets-96334.html

put some card board over the bolt and punch the bolt through it then try and find a nut that fits it and weld it on there as much as you can and pull it out like a regular bolt

if you dont have a welder do the other methods listed they all work really well

Wow killer idea. I'm kind of mad I never thought of that before.
