Default Turn down exhaust vs. behind the wheel

Does anybody have an experience with turn down exhaust vs. behind the wheel exhaust? I知 going to get one and I知 thinking of getting a turn down. But I知 worried it may be to loud in the cab. Thanks

----------

I am also thinking of getting the AFE cold air intake. Or do you guys have any other suggestions?

In my humble opinion a turn down is the worst setup you can have. There's pretty much no benefit outside of being cheap but a ton of drawbacks. Noise is definitely going to be an issue, sometimes it will be a tolerable noise increase but sometimes it's a horrible droning. There's also issues of smell when stopped since fumes just pile under the truck. Then there's heat, exhaust gasses are hot and most things under the truck don't need any extra heat.

And as for the cold air intake. Your factory intake is already a true cold air setup that can outflow what the engine can suck in. This is not opinion, there is NO aftermarket intake that will improve performance on an otherwise stock engine. In fact most actually cause MAF issues, reduce performance and draw in hotter air.

All the research I did when I had to do a cat-back swap I went with the flow master 80 series I think, it has built in anti-drone with the deepest sound possible with the most minimal 4cyl fart can sound.

I am assuming that a "turn down" exhaust dumps directly under the truck.
If you want to know how it would function.......open up a propane cylinder in the garage and sit there for 15 minutes with the door closed.
Just when you thought you heard it all....................

I致e seen a turn down after the muffler. But I壇 think at most the exhaust MUST end behind the cab for safety

I ran turndown MBRP for ages. Wasn't loud at all. Aim the turndown at an angle so it doesnt bounce off the road and its totally fine.

Less pipe, less to get hung up on out back, it was nice having. I had no regrets running it.

Dirtman is talking out of his ass. none of that is true.

I think we are talking 2 different things here, one, turn down after muffler and 2, exhaust dump before a muffler?

IMHO... any exhaust that exits before the rear tires will have added noise to the cab area, PERIOD !

My brother had a 2.9L with the exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires, there was still noise in the cab but not as bad a Turn-Downs, just behind the cab. With the windows closed it was tolerable but when you opened the windows... NOISE + !

Running the noise out the rear is the way to go, exit after the rear tires give an OEM look, if you don't like that exit the tail pipes straight back after the rear axle.
Add a little more throat to the sound with a slightly larger pipe but don't go too oversize !

The big thing here is WHAT DO YOU WANT ?
This is your truck, mount up the Turn-Down and see what it sounds like to you, then if ok leave it, OR add some side exits and see if it sound like you want, etc, etc... !
We can say yes or no but it will depend on you and your truck.

Luck on the project !

Haha thanks for the responses. I do appreciate it. I was just curious what the reviews were on a turn down exhaust was. The one I’m looking at is an MBRP exhaust system. The turn down after the muffler is cheaper then the one exiting out the back. I love the MBRP exhaust sound but they don’t make dual exhaust for their system. I’m sold on not getting an aftermarket cold air intake and keeping stock. I’ve read other reviews on that set up and unless you have done engine modifications it’s not really worth it. I just want to have the truck be it’s own unique look to it. I don’t want it to look our sound like all the other trucks on the road. I bought this truck just over two weeks ago and I plan on having it for years to come.

I've had stock exhaust, mbrp turndown, straight pipe after cats (just took mbrp muffler off) and now mines just cut off after the last cat.

Sure, turndown before axle is a little louder in cab, but it's hardly noticeable unless you have the windows open. I've been on that setup for over a year. No exhaust fumes in cab, no crazy drone.

Muffler off, yeah you could hear it in the cab easy.

Cut off after cat, obviously loudest. Still no exhaust fumes in cab. I don't have rust holes... If you're getting fumes in the cab you got issues.
