Default Lean Code Bank 1

I have a 2000 ford ranger 4 cylinder 5 speed manual 176,000 miles. I just replaced the exhaust system and catalytic converter along with the 2 o2 sensors. ever since ive been getting a lean code there are no exhaust leaks or vacuum leaks. but on the muffler to intermediate pipe connection where the u bolt is there is been a little bit of black soot coming out would that cause cold air to go upstream and cause a lean code? had no engine codes before the work

one other possibility. i have a 2010 ranger. wiring harness was resting on top of motor and egr valve wiring was burnt through so egr valve was not working. after i elevated harness and replaced bad wiring problem solved.
