Default Clogged cat

Relatively sure the cats are clogged on my sons 02. 3.0 non flex fuel.

Pipe has a leak after the cats and it got quiet, hisses and will only go 50 MPH. No loud exhaust noise at all.

What I'm wondering is why the CEL did not come on. You would think this would create a condition where the light would come on.
Has anyone else seen a clogged cat and no light?

Hi,
To find out if you have a clogged cat connect a vacuum gauge

Some tool companies sell an exhaust back pressure test gauge that screws in to the 02 sensor bung.

Nearly every vehicle I have seen with a clogged cat had codes in the computer normally from the reason the cat got plugged up to begin with.

Does the check engine light come on with the key on engine off?

Yup, light works. No codes we scanned it too just in case.

I'm certain it is clogged, the pipe is pretty much open at the pipe to the muffler after the cats and there is no noise, there was last week.

This might have been happening all along, when I bought it there was a blown exhaust gasket, sounded like extreme unconventional pressure before I replaced it. After I sealed it up the thing had less power than a 3.0 normally does if you can imagine that. Replacing the cam synch helped but it is still a gutless wonder especially now.

If it is clogged the only thing you can do is replace it , then rescan the computer for codes, make sure it is going into closed loop.
It would a good idea to have the emissions tested to make sure it doesn't get clogged again.
