Default exhaust mods?

Anyone have any good cheap/free exhaust mods to make my truck louder/more mean sounding? Id like to be able to rev my engine and turn some heads but dont want it to sound like crap. also dont want it to hurt performance or damage anything. Thanks for all the help!
-Joe

also I found this video and was wondering if this would sound very good on a ranger or if theres anything wrong with it

Cheap and not sound like crap shouldn't be in the same sentence.

Wait, so the OP wants to know if a purposeful exhaust leak will give him the roar of a V8? LMFAO

I really like the sound of this one^^^
Could someone explain a little bit more on how to open the headers/exhaust or whatever and also if it is bad for your truck at all? I dont want to do anything that might shorten the life of my truck

That is hilarious!
OP: if you have a hacksaw you can cut your muffler off and it will be louder and won't have any negative issues with your truck but you should at least try to plumb the exhaust out from under your vehicle so it doesn't drone in the cab.

My exhaust cuts off just after my cab. Don't just cut a hole in the exhaust, it sounds like white trash and on these engines is just pathetic.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice, so I guess there arent any free ideas that will give me the sound im looking for so I looked at cherry bombs and they are cheaper than what I thought they would be and I like the sound so does anyone have any advice on these? Do they hurt performance at all? I really like the sound of this one:

I had cherry bomb for years on my 3.0 before I did the 5.0 swap. I really liked the sound and it gets better with age as the fiberglass packing burns out. I installed it myself and I think back then the muffler was $20 and a couple of clamps were few dollars more. if I had to do it over again I would use stainless steel band clamps because they won't leak and I suggest anti-seize on the clamp bolts so you can take it off if you ever have to.

Cool Re: exhaust mods?

BTW, don't do open headers on your truck. your 97 uses data from the front o2 sensors to modify fueling strategy and data from the rear sensor for emissions in some states/counties. either cut the muffler out and replace with a glass pack or put a peice of pipe in there and call it a day

Just cut the muffler out. Free and sounds great on a 4.0
