Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
So I've got a magnaflow exhaust, though I have no idea which model it is. The person who had it before me put it on, and had I planned on doing any mods I probably would've asked which one it was.
Regardless, I know that after the muffler there is approximately 6-12 inches of pipe and then a turndown, which is where it stops. This is right around the back tire. I'm a total noob at this, but would it make any louder if I got bigger diameter pipe and ran it all the way to the back just starting at the muffler? And if so would this be a reasonably priced option?
I don't want to compromise the sound of the magnaflow cause I love the smooth deep sound but I just want it a tad louder. Thanks in advance.

Try shortening the pipe after the muffler. And larger exhaust tip. That may make it a little louder, since you don't want change out the muffler.

Ok, it's already very short. Only about 8 inches or so to the turndown. Should I just put on a bigger diameter turndown than what's on there now?

Ok, so you don't think running bigger pipe all the way to the back wouldn't really make much difference compared to a bigger diameter turndown, would it?

from what I hear around here, bigger usually means louder. Simple as that. I'm sure someone else will say something as well

Re: Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
I got flowmaster muffler with it dumped right before the rear wheel probably same as yours, mines pretty loud, but as stated above bigger would make it louder, but the longer it is, it will deplete the sound a bit if you took it to the tail gate, hah if you want loud just cut out the muffler

Ok thanks. No I don't want to cut out the muffler lol I want to keep the sound I have from the magnaflow just make it a little louder. I mean I can barely hear it when I take off from a red light for goodness sakes. I'm just concerned as to whether or not replacing the turndown with a bigger one will be worth it, because I don't really know how much more volume I would get out of that.

Re: Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
it could just be that's the way the muffler is, I wouldn't mess with it, look at getting another muffler maybe, they aren't to expensive and if you can weld it aint hard

Re: Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
You're going to reduce back pressure by going wider. You may get some change in tone, it will sound a touch deeper in tone but you'll lose power and it won't be any louder.

So what if rather than extending it I replaced the section between the cats and muffler with larger pipe? It is 2" ID I could replace it with 2.5" for like $20. Where it is connected to the muffler it's welded but it shouldn't be too difficult to cut that and clamp on new pipe would it? And I'm assuming I could buy the fittings needed to connect the pipe near the cats easily (first pic)

Re: Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
I would just buy a different muffler by the time you try to make that one louder you could do it. Have it welded in and dumped right at the exit opening. I have a Thrush welded on mine that way. After a coupon from advance it cost me $25 then 40 for a shop to weld it in. Its plenty loud and deep for what it is not ricey.

looks like a hack job. Is it even welded or just shoved in the opening?

To tell you the truth I don't know, the guy who had the truck before me did it. Don't know if he installed himself or someone else did it.
I'm really a fan of the MBRP cat back system but I'm not sure if they sell just the mufflers, and I'm not quite ready to drop $225 right now. A $20 glass pack is tempting, but it seems anything above idling they sound like crap. Any
Muffler recommendations for a v6 4.0?

Re: Easy way to make magnaflow any louder?
I have a Thrush Welded SI/SO that after some discounts I got from advance auto for $25 bucks. Sounds better than my flowmaster 40 I had.
