Exhaust Sound / Pipes
I've never installed an exhaust system and know absolutely nothing about them; other than that's where the exhaust from the engine comes out.
My 1999 is a 3.0 V6 (flex fuel model) and is a 4x4. I'd like to see about an exhaust system, pipe, or whatever to give it a nice sound but far from a ricer. Something that would give the sound that "I've got power to pull X"; something my grandfather describes as 'crackle'.
I'll probably react something like this when I see the prices.

Re: Exhaust Sound / Pipes
You have a range of options from just removing the stock muffler and putting an aftermarket one on to a full cat back system (new exhaust pipe(s) and muffler(s) from the catalytic converters back to the tail pipe).
The cheapest option is just replacing the muffler. A cat back system varies in price depending on brand and a custom setup.

Re: Exhaust Sound / Pipes
An idea that crossed through my mind. I'm heading over to some scrap yards this weekend for parts. Would it achieve some kind of effect if I grabbed a muffler off, say, a Silverado, RAM, Sierra; or really any fullsized truck?

Re: Exhaust Sound / Pipes
Stock mufflers won't really do anything. If one of those trucks have an aftermarket one on and its a 2.5" inlet/outlet diameter, it will work.
