Default catalytic converter

I now have to replave my cat converters in my truck and they are a bit pricey, so what i was wondering is if there was a way to make it so i just have one cat in it and what i would have to do if there is a way. i live in NY and they are realy strict about this stuff here

If a code mentions the name of a part, it doesn't neccasarily mean the part mentioned is bad. If you you replaced your cat with a strait pipe your engine light would shoot lasers at you. You would have great difficulty passing any emisions test without a cat. Buying an 11,000 pound truck plate will exempt you from emissions testing.

What are the codes? Not that I'm any good deciphering them but there are others who might be able to indicate something besides giving up on the idea of having a catalytic converter.

I looked at summit racing and found 3 cats for less than $100, they are universal. As long as the O2 sensor is installed after the cat the computer won't know the difference if it's a direct fit or universal cat.

Also it depends on the computer code given weather the cat needs replaced. Unless NYS has told you your cat is bad then there's prob no need to do so.

NY doesn't care as long as there's a cat present and the check engine light works as it should. ( I lived there for 4 yrs in Jefferson Co/Ft Drum area) So I got to be familiar with the rules.
