Default Exhaust Flange Repair Question: Gasket??

Hi All,

I tried searching the forum for this topic, but I think it might be simpler to just ask my question...

I have a small exhaust leak at the flange between the cat and the resonator. Both flanges are pretty well shot, so I got split flange replacements from Advance Auto

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/w...+flange+repair

and

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/w...+flange+repair

Since the resonator pipe is 2" diameter and the cat pipe is 2.5".

My question is about the gasket that is supposed to go between. Advance shows 2 different gaskets that are a "perfect fit" for my 2003 ranger (2.3L 4cyl, 2wd).

One gasket looks like a steel cone:

And the other looks like a braided steel mesh o-ring

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/f...641/3204723-P#

Both gaskets show up as "you may also want to consider...".

So: do I need both gaskets? How do they go together? I plan to tear the old flanges off in the morning and get to repairing this, so any advice or help tonight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Default Re: Exhaust Flange Repair Question: Gasket??

Thanks Casey.

As it turns out, the picture of the gaskets from Advance were misleading. Both were cone shaped. (One picture showed a cone shaped gasket, and the other, a Felpro, looked like a steel o-ring, but just because the picture was taken head-on...). I replaced the one rotted flange, and put the new gasket in. All is good.

Thanks.
