42441 is an original 40. And for some reason, Original 40's on these trucks just sound.......QUIET. lol.

Piping sizes make a difference, but it's a fine line between too small and too big. IMO, 2.25 or 2.5" cat-back single pipe is perfect for a 4.0.

it should be 2.25 stock. how loud did you want? If you want really loud then try a flowmaster 10 series, glasspack, straight pipe or cherry bomb extreme. you could try a stack too just to be really crazy...

I just put the 40 on my truck dumped. Was a little disappointed as well but give it a few days. Mine is perfect now. If it were any louder or deeper it would just sound like i was trying to make it something its not. Its a perfect tone for a small 6 cylinder truck.

Well loud enough to tell that I have a damn exhaust on it! lmao!! When I got the truck it had no cat-back pipe or muffler.. So went to the damn muffler shop and thats what they put on it, 2" piping.

Basicly the stock pipe size is 2.25 inches. I wouldn't go any higher than 2.5 inches. Go with a single inlet and dual outlets about 6 inches behind the cab. Now this is where it gets interesting. Concerning Flowmaster Mufflers the only one they make that has a 2.5 inch single inlet is the Deltaflow 40 Series. The rest are usually 3 inch single inlet and Dual 2.5 inch oulets. Those work very, very, well but it can and usually does show a bit of power loss. Just enough to notice and a drop in MPG's as well.

So it looses power?? My 4.0 cant afford power loss!! lmao.. And I was thinking just a 2.25" just to keep it same size as factory

BASICALLY, stock pipe sizes change. My '01 4.0 had a 2" cat-back stock. And all 4.0's '03ish and older were 2".

Like I said before, if single, go 2.5" all the way back or 2.25". I ran 2.5" all the way back and a flow40/super40/super44 and noticed no power loss over stock. No gain either...just sound.

If dual out, 2.5" in/dual 2.0 or 2.25" out. I was hell bent on 2" tailpipes and it was what I was going to use....til my installer was bending 2.25" tailpipes, so I just ran with it. again, I noticed no ill effects of it. I actually got power BACK because I was 'dumped'.

Again spreading all your ilinformedness. Flowmaster makes ALL SIZES. INCLUDING ALL THEIR OVAL MUFF LINES IN SINGLE 2.5" i/o! Just go take a freakin' look for yourself on their website. 2.0", 2.25", 2.5", 3.0" inlets and outlets. GO LOOK!!

You can ALWAYS bump the size of the pipe right there where it slips in.....I'm running a 3" in/dual 2.5" out muffler.....but running 2.5" pipe and 2.25" pipe.

dumped = no piping behind the muffler and/or just a little turndown on the muffler outlet.
