Default Dual exhaust? v6 4 liter? straight pipe AND duals?

So this summer i want to get duals/straight pipes for my ford ranger. Yeh its only a v6, but i want a better sounding exhaust.

I just want to know what are my options.
I want something LOUDER, but not ungodly unreasonably loud.
Im wanting to spend about 300, 400 at the MAX

What are my options, prices?

Also, it doesnt even have to be duals. What is a good sounding exhaust that isnt extremly loud.

Ive heard stuff about dynomax? good?
What about a super 44?

on your engine, flowmaster delta 40 sounds best. just do 2.5" from the cat back in either single tailpipe or dual tailpipe behind the muffler. single is cheapest. Check out performance-peddler's ebay store...best prices on flowmasters I've seen. Probably about $60-70 for your muffler from them compared to Summit's price of $90 or so.

Call around or stop at local exhaust shops for quotes. even the muffler too. Might be able to get the whole setup for cheaper if you buy the muffler from them at a higher price. I'd stop in and tell 'em what you want done. 2.5" cat back with offset in/center out Flowmaster 40 delta flow(part # 842541). The reason for the offset in/center out is that it's easier and less bends for the installer and usually, that means cheaper for you. You'll wanna do a new cat-back system in either 2.5" or 2.25"(and have the muffler matched too). What you linked is a great price and worth it for the extra bends. And usually, going local is ALOT cheaper than a brand new bolt-in system from like Flowmaster or Magnaflow or Dynomax or whatever.

Here's a link to Performance Peddler's site: http://www.performancepeddler.com/

so, can i have them run duals from the muffler back also? will it make that much of a sound difference?

And when you mean matched, make sure if the muffler is a 2.5 in/out make sure the new catback is 2.5?

What do you think a ballpark guesstimate would be for them to install the muffler, with a new catback, and eveything you said except have them make duals out of the muffler?

Unfortunately, muffler shops prices vary HUGELY. I can't give you a good idea of cost. I can give you a range.....$150-450 for dual out. lol. I got quotes for my single 2.5" cat back, I supplied the muffler, ranging from $130-300. Just for 2 pipes and about 5 or 6 bends, plus welding. The single 2.5" setup, I paid 150 to hang and bend up. My new 2.5" in, dual 2.25" out setup cost me 225 to hang and bend up...both with me supplying the muffler.

With duals, I find it being deeper in tone on the outside than singles from my experience. I'm talking about dual pipes out of the muffler. If you want duals, I suggest getting a dual out muffler. Custom making a Y at the exhaust shop can be pricey at times. I also suggest a single 2.5 or 2.25" in muffler and dual 2" or 2.25" out muffler. An exhaust shop can make up the difference if you say, buy a 3" in muffler and are using 2.5" piping. That's actually how mine is setup now. Just a small bump up in pipe size to fit the muffler on both the in side and the out side.

Yes....when I say 'matched', I mean 2.5" pipe in a 2.5" muffler. You can get away with a 2.5" in muffler and 2.25" pipe for example. You can go larger on the muffler side if needed to get a good ass deal on the muffler or if that's the only available option on the muffler. My Super 44 was like that. In dual out, it was only avaliable in 3" in/dual 2.5" out at the mufflers release(when I purchased it too). Yet I ran 2.5" in pipe, and dual 2.25" tailpipes.

Best thing I can suggest is picking up the phone book or yellow pages.com in your area and looking for local exhaust shops and seeing what they have to say or suggest and getting some quotes. Write prices down and stuff, then go from there.

Hope I'm not blahblahblahing too much. Just trying to teach and help. I've gone through 5 or 6 different mufflers on my truck til I found the one I liked enough to redo my whole system.

In summary(LOL!).....

stop by local places to get quotes.

go with a offset in/center or dual out Flowmaster Delta 40 and for pipes, go 2.5" all the way out if single pipe. Or go 2.5" in/dual 2" or 2.25" out if duals.

yeh i was looking for a 2.25 in and dual 2.25 OUT Delta 40 series pipe on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-F...Q5fAccessories

So if i brought that in, could they make it work?
I want duals, because i want it to be deeper. But if its going to be like a $200 price difference then ill just get what you have.

like i said, stop around and get prices before you buy anything. the entire setup could be cheaper if you buy the muffler through the shop. also compare prices of single vs. dual tails.
