Re: Exaust seal problem
I just replaced all four converters on my 2001 4.0. I believe the 4.0 litre system is different than what you describe.(4 converters) There is however, a cone shaped gasket where the mid pipe meets the rear (last) converter. I'd advise you to look up your specific parts on autopartswarehouse or any other comprehensive online auto parts distributor so you can see exactly what type it is. They sell all direct fit O/E type exhaust parts form the manifolds back for all Ranger engine sizes/models so you'll be able to easily identify the exact connection you're referring to. If you have a torch, you should heat up the bolts/nuts to facilitate easy removal, otherwise they can snap right off and you'll be replacing more than you want to. If you do get it separated and find that you need to replace that cone gasket, you can get a new one from just about any auto parts store, like Autozone, Advance Auto parts, Pep Boy's, Napa ect... just bring the old one (what's left of it) with you to match it up.
