Did you notice a huge difference with the new throttle cable? I don't like the idea of putting zip ties on mine either. I don't know if mine will be that bad though it being a 2004 and barely coming onto 95000 miles.

Performed the throttle cable mod yesterday; what a performance difference. Cell phone camera images of the work.

A nearly 3/4" gap between the cable ferrule and spring end.

First zip tie installed with excess snipped off.

Second zip tie installed before excess snipped off.

Thanks Ranger forum users!

Just did the throttle cable mod on a Mustang. You guys have nothing to complain about as far as lack of space goes until you attempt it in a Mustang. The girl was so happy with it and the responsiveness that she paid me $20 for 5 minutes and three cable ties.

Haha I hear ya man, im 6'2" and 240, with a sub box behind my seat so it could barley go back. Needless to say it was a struggle but totally worth it

I just did this mod to my 2005 with 135,000 miles. There was about 1/2 inch of slack, and I was able to fit 2 small zip ties on there. I'll see the difference when I leave work in about an hour. Hopefully it'll help with my rough up-shifts. If there's a huge difference, I'll probably come up with a little more permanent fix. Or get some bigger ties. Those little zip ties seem pretty weak.

Hi I'm a brand new woman on here who knows nothing about trucks But I know I need a new throttle cable for my 1994 Ford Ranger and I called my local ford dealership and they said the part costs $133!! Does this sound right? Why would it be so expensive? My zipcode is 61310. Napa doesn't have them. Any suggestions??

My guess is its that high because the are the only source for it. Unfortunately you may not have a choice. I did a quick search on Ebay and Amazon to no avail.

Well, thanks for checking. I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay. Thanks!

I agreee. I'd rather fix the problem with a new part than treat it like an s-10 and duct tape it.

Fome some reason my cable only has like 1/4" of slack in it. 13 year old truck with 153k on the clock. Weird. Still gotta test the throttle plate position before I consider this

First step, get under there...i found it easiest to lie on my back with my head right near the gas pedal...it's def uncomfortable, but it's a quick job, so no sweat. When you look up, you'll see the following...

Next, pull up on the pedal...you will see the slack on the cable extend out from the spring....

You can either hold the pedal up, or prop something underneath...i attached the zip ties loosely, then tightened them 1 at a time. I guess it can work either way. I left the long ends on for the pic for clarity.
Snip 'em off and you're done. I def noticed a big difference in throttle response and jump off the line instantly...when i have time, im gonna cut the ones I put on there off, and go with smaller ones so I can get 3 on there, but for now, instant gratification.
