depends on what size tire you want to run and how much wheeling you do. if u do not do any wheeling and plan on sticking with a tire between a 31-33in the D30 should be fine, even though i have seen larger tires on that size axle they do not hold up well. Anything from a 35in tire on up i would not run anything less then a D44 front axle.

ive seen guys run a 37" on the D30. it'll still hold up, as long as you aren't stupid with it, but thats my opinion. what kind of a budget do you have? and what are your plans of wheeling/additions to the axle(i.e. gearing, lockers)?

yes i have also, in my front yard. (not my truck BTW)

just stating though. I personally would rather see him put a little bit stronger axle that we all know that will handle a good bit of abuse, with a D30 its hit and miss, IMO

oh i agree. i personally wouldn't run anything bigger than a 35" on a D30... and if its locked, nothing bigger than a 33". but if all he's doin is for looks, a D30 would be sufficient. as for actually wheeling it, look into a D44... and if money is no object get a EB D44 and put under it, that'll fit damn near perfect! just gotta replace the axle shafts cause the stock D35 front and EB D44 have the same size u-joint.

yes this is true. My 97 had a shortend D44 locked w/ 4.56 gears and it has seen anything from the floirda mud to wheeling at tellico, and it had more problems with the 9in rear then anything else. Yes for pretty much just looks and light wheeling, it would prolly be an alright axle. Like as stated, if money is not a big factor beef it up a little and it should treat you very well.

Default Re: straight axle for 92 ranger

I have a !992 extended cab with a 4.0. Would you suggest the same for this truck? I will be doing some wheeling, but nothing crazy. mostly just hunting etc.
