Default looking for a set of 2.73 gears

hey guys like the title states i'm looking for anyone who has a set of 2.73 gears that will fit in a 7.5 rear end i need them to get better gas mileage on my truck because w/ my tire diameter at 65 my truck runs at 3300 and w/ the 2.73's i'll be able to run 65 at a lower rpm which will get better mileage... so if anyone out there has a set of gears w/ the shims and all quote me a price and i'll see what i can work with

You mean 3.73's? Having 2.73's will not give you better mileage because it will take so much more power to get up to speed. Do they even make 2.73's?

I'm almost sure they don't make a 2:73 gear set for the 7.5. I did a quik search of a couple websites and came up with nothing. I suggest either putting the right size tires on it or find another gear ratio that they make for that axle. Either way, putting the right tires on it will still be the cheaper option unless you know how to set rearend gears. That's just my 2 pennys

I am running 3.73 gears in my truck with the same size tire and run about 2700 at 65 or more mph. It gives good acceleration and yet keeps a lower rpm at high speeds. With 2.73 gears, you are going to have such a hard time accelerating from a stop it would be awful.

the only set back for 2.73's is the slow acceleration, however ronsonol8 is right it will give me a great top speed i have a set of 3.73's in my truck stock and i wanted to change the gears because it will be cheaper than a new set of rims and tires... and thanks guys i guess i will keep looking for a set of gears around the 2.75 3.00 mark

honestly if you want a change....go to 3.45's it'll be more significant than you thin...but still streetable, and its what came in the older Gen 3 mid 90's rangers

well i was going by this chart here http://therangerstation.com/tech_lib...tirechart.html and it says that w/ the 24" tall tires i have the best gears for me would be around the 2.73 gears maybe the 2.94's i will take the 3.45's under advisement now does anyone know where i can get the 3.45s?

you can pull 3.45's out of almost any Junkyard axle thats a ford ranger 7.5
anyone whose upgraded their 93-97 ranger that was a 4cyl has a set of 3.45's laying around some where...
my gen 3 had 225/70/r14's on it Which is about a 26" tire maybe a little less then that.as mine were BALD..and I'll tell you yes the lima 2.3l has less power then the duratec, but the Truck was a DOG with 3.45's, slow.....slow...in town..slow to get up to speed in the interstate..slow everywhere..but...It did get great gas mileage....rofl!

very true the drop from 3.73 to 3.45 will slow the acceleration down a lot and up the mileage on the truck, so i guess i need to go check for a set of 3.45's then, but i think it will still be fast when i drop in the 5.0 and 4r70w so i will need all the help i could get w/ mileage after the swap

your sig says 255/45r17 tires which are 26.035433inch in diameter.
What is your transmission, and you know that chart isn't including overdrive, right?
