Since the brake lamp function is separate from the turn signals in 1998, you're in luck. Look for a light green wire in a round, 8-position connector near the back end of the driver side frame rail. It is for brake lights only. Ground in the same connector is black. (The same color codes are also available at the subharness connections to each tail light.)

If you have the Ford factory trailer receptacle, it won't work correctly for a CHMSL because it is set up for combo brake/turn lights on the trailer.
