Default Cargo Light not turning on

I bought my truck this past January (2013) so I don't exactly know what kind of electrical work has been done to it but I'm stuck in doing some diagnostics into why the Cargo Lights won't illuminate. My '03 XLT has the high mount brake light with a cargo light on either side, and all of the electrical wires and harnesses are present for all three bulbs. I removed and looked all around the interior dome light to see if the cargos were supposed to piggy-back off of that, but there are no signs of additional wires. So I am trying to see if anyone might have an idea where those wires may come out. From the wire tracing I did, they seem to enter a wire organizer which then T's-off at the top of the drivers-side pillar. One way goes to the dome light and the other goes down the pillar and under the driver's seat then through what I'm assuming is the center bump in the floor. If anyone has come upon this before or knows where these wires come out I'd appreciate a little insight. My other thought was to just run my own line from the fuse box to a toggle switch then cut and splice that line with the cargo light, but I would like to avoid running my own line if at all possible so that I can keep the wiring clean and simple. Any thoughts?

Probably dumb questions, but did you check the bulbs?

Have you checked your dimmer switch to make sure it's rolled all the way up to activate the cargo lights?

Does the wiring plug on the truck side have 3 wires & 3 pins or just 2 wires/pins?
Some of the newer trucks weren't pre-wired for cargo lights.

If you're not pre-wired, you can still use the cargos, with a little modding.
You'll need to tap into the cargo light wiring & tie into the dome light power & ground wires above the headliner.

Not the perfect solution, but it's as close to stock as you'll get without any major modding.

I checked the bulbs and they are fine and nothing I do with the dimmer switch seems to make the cargos turn on. The truck side has 3 wires and 3 pins.

The cargo's are inline with the interior dome light, so they (the cargo's) should turn on when you open your door.

I'm having the same issue with my 2003 Ranger. The cargo lgith bulbs are tested and ok however there it no power to them when the dome light is on or doors opened. What do I check next?

My cargo lights work just like Buggman said above. They will only come on when you use the dimmer switch for the instrument panel lights. It's the small wheel just to the right of the headlight/parking light switch. Roll it upwards until it clicks - this will turn on the dome light and the cargo lights.

Opening the door or using the switch on the dome light will not turn on the cargo lights, at least on my truck. I bought this truck new back in 2002, and the wiring has not been touched since then.

Hope this helps.
